Cotswold Canals Knowledge has worked with many schools within the area bordered by the Canals, especially in the Stroud and Stonehouse area. Our mission is help children have a sense of the place in which they live and to know how sucessive generations have changed the local environment. Equipped with that knowledge and understanding, future generations have the opportunity to develop the area with sensitivity and pride.
The following pages are a flavour of our work and of the work of the children in the area.
We are able to work with the Company of Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation and use their archive of documents stretching back to the 1730's. We also use the memories and photographs lodged on the Cotswold Canals Heritage website (www.cotswoldcanalsheritage.org.uk ), but mostly we use the expertise and enthusiasm of all those involved in the regeneration of this unique group of waterways.
